My little brother is 7 years old and almost every night he wakes up shaking and trembling as if he is having ?

a nightmare he has been doing this for at least 3 years now. he opens his eyes an appears as if he was looking at something. he says stuff but nothing can really be understood. my question is why does this happen? is it a illness or a type of dieases or what. can someone please answer this
